Turkey jails German journalist on terrorism charges.


A court in Istanbul , AFP on Monday ordered provisional detention of a correspondent of the German newspaper;  Deniz Yucel.
The court said Daniz Yucel has been charged with spreading terrorist propaganda and iciting hatred.
He has been held since February 18th in connection with news report on an attack by hackers aganist the email account of Turkey's energy minister ; Berat Albayrak.
A cancellcellor ; Angela Merkel has rebuked the court decision which she called "bitter and disappointing". As she says that a press has its freedom in all democratic society. 

Female Hajj Pilgrim ; Binuyo Basirat Iyabo who ecreted 76 wraps of cocaine bags 10years jail term.

 

A female Hajj Pilgrim ; Binuyo Basirat Iyabo who was caught last year September with 76 wraps of cocine has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour by Justice B.O. Quadri of the Federal High Court Abuja.
In Quadri's statement during his judgement,  he said the sentence is to serve as a deterrent to others. He also disclosed that the hard labour attached to the sentence was because of the convict's refusal to reveal the identify of her sponsors. 
Binuyo Basirat Iyabo before this incident was a cosmetic trader at Dusumu market in Lagos and married with three kids. 
She agreed to the charges laid against her and said she agreed to smughle the drug for a fee of one million which she planned investing in her cosmetic business.

Fire destroys Banky W's residence. 



A residence located at lekki phase 1 where popular Nigeria artiste Banky W lives was engulfed by fire early hours of today.
Immediate neigbour to the artiste who wants to be anonymous said the fire which started about 6 am this morning was caused by a faulty air conditioner.
The Lagos state fire services arrived the fire scene around 7:30am, a time which is far too late as the fire has already destroyed vital properties of the artiste including his awards.

Uyo church disaster : No mass burial says Akwa Ibom government. 



Recall the disater that befell Reigners bible church Uyo on 21st December 2016 where 26 worshippers were comfirmed dead and 150 others injured after the church building collapse. 
The Akwa Ibom state government has said that there are no plans of mass burial for the deceased vitcms.  This was made known by the commissioner while addressing relatives of the deceased who have been demanding for the release of the corpses due to fear of mass burial. 
The commissioner promised them that 23 identified corpse will be released after conclusion proceedings by the panel  of enquiry set by the government on the church incident., while 3 remaining corpse are yet to be identified. 
He also said that about 150 others with minor injuries have been treated and are in good health.

Kidnappers of Delta state house of assembly speaker gets 104 years imprisonment. 


Justice O. Jaloggo - Williams, justice of Delta state high court has sentenced eight persons responsible for the kidnap of Monday Igbuya, Delta state hose of assembly speaker to 104 years imprisonment.  
The accused persons were ; Godspower Okoro, Godspower Omoniyi ( an ex- soldier), Ernest Atteh, John Adapamu, Ife Freedom,  Sunday Uba Tiemo, Kemi Koinyang and Isaiah Mumbor.
The accused persons were charged on a six - count charge of conspiracy to commit felony, kidnapping,  armed robbery and the substantive case of the kidnapping of Monday Igbuya and demanding 100 million as ransom. 

Appeal court won't put Trump's travel ban case on hold.


A federal high court on Monday denied a request from the U.S justice department to put president Donald Trimp's travel ban on hold until he issues a new executive order.
A three - jugde panel of the 9th U.S circuit did not give an explanation for its ruling but said it would extend untill next week the deadlines for the government's opening brief in its appeal.
A lower court temporarily blocked Trump's order that banned travellers from seven predominantly Muslim countries and paused U.S refugee programme after Washington state and Minnesota sued to stop it.
After the block, Trump tweeted " meet you in court" . Though he had said that his government is working on a new travel ban that addresses some of the constitutional concerns that critics have raised.
White House press secretary,  Sean Spicer was asked during a briefing Monday why the administration wants to defend the ban in court if its writing a newone. He said the government would defend the appeals case "because we were right the first time".
Nicole Navas, a justice department spokesman declined to comment on why the agency sought to put the case on hold while the administration is publicly saying it wants to fight it.
The appeals court said the government brief is due March 10.

NYSC today 27th February declared the development of a new point agenda which will be aimed firstly at monitoring corp members in their places of primary assignments. And secondly, to empower NYSC officers in all the states across Nigerial and FCT. The public relations officer of NYSC in Oyo, Simeon Bankole who spoke on the development said the director general of corps, Kazaure will address all the zonal and local government inspectors of the scheme in South - west geo - political zone in Nigeria on Thursday 2nd March when the workshop is scheduled to hold with the theme " Enshrining Transparency in Corps Monitoring and Participation in Community Development Services Using ICT ".
Muma Gee set to file for divorce.
The estranged wife of Nollywood actor, Muma has declared her decision to file for a divorce between her and her ex husband. Recall that on December last year, the husband prince Eke accused her of abandoning her two months old baby at home and left for Abuja where she was seen clubbing and dinning with Abuja rich men. But she replied and said she went for a business trip. While, a close source to the couple said the marriage has been from domestic violence to  battering,  a course on which the wife has finally decided to file for divorce.

11 months old baby battles for life after been raped by a 27 year old man ; Ibrahim in Ijebu Ogun State.

A woman in ijebu Ogun state has been thrown in agony after his neighbour by the name Ibrahim rapped her 11 months old baby girl whom she dropped for him to baby sit while she go to market to get foodstuffs.  It was gathered that Ibrahim started by fingering the baby's sex organ before inserting his manhood. 
He was caught by other neighbours and is currently at the state police cell.

Yemi Osibanjo's 38 days in power ; work review and the way forward. 

Today marks 38 days since the former vice president of Nigeria assumed post as the acting president. Taking a look at the major 8 things he has done for the betterment of Nigeria. 
1. Road contracts: 
On February 8, Osibanjo chaired the FEC and gave approval of 21 billion for the construction of Illorin - Omu Aran - Kebba road.
He also approved the award of 126billion on 15th February for the construction of federal roads across Kano, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kwara, Gombe, Enugu and Kaduna states.

2. Reduction in prices of food.

He organised a presidential task force on food security to resuce the prices of dood items in the country. 
On January 17, he also held a meeting with the executive director of WFP, ms. Ertharin Cousin.

3. Screening of Chief Justice Walter Onnoghe:

Yemi Osibanjo on 7th February,  sent the name of the acting chief justice of Nigeria,  Cheif Justice Walter Onnoghe to the senate for screening. 
The senates however,  are yet to screen or confirm him.

4. Visitation of Niger Delta:

Within this short period of post, Osibanjo has visited Yenagoa the capital of Bayelsa on two occasions.  February 10th and 13th respectively. This is in continuation of his meetings with oil producing communities in the state.
He also went to Port Harcourt.  Rivers State to meet the stakeholders of oil producing communities. In the visitation,  he reviewed the plan for the clean up exercise of ogoni land.

5. Siging of 7 bills into law.

On February 17th, Osibanjo signed and amended some bills into law; amendment of Oaths act 2017
Signed Defence space administration act 2017 into law.
Amendment of  Veterinary surgeons act 2017. e.t.c

6. CBN and forex trading: 

Osibanjo on February 16th chaired the first meeting of the National Economic Council of the year.  There he gave a directive to the CBN to review the foreign exchange policy. At the end of the meeting, it was finalised that $250 be moved into SWF. The CBN was also directed to release $500 million through interbank markets, whare the 23 banks bought $371 million.

7. Unscheduled visit to Mortala Muhammed airport: 

Yemi paid an unexpected visit to Lagos state airport to inspect the facilities and also interact with airport officials for the smooth running of the airport. 

8. Infrastructure : 

on February 22, Osibanjo chaired the meeting hwld by FEC where he approved 32 billion naira for the completion and renovation of Kaduna eastern bypass highway. In the meeting, he also approved $ 39.9 for the construction of the Cameroon - Nigeria border link bridge at Ikot Efiem.
The council also approved the Revised National Policy on Environment. 

With all these achievements in just 38 daya in office, all we can say is that Osibanjo is working.  Continue sir and more grease to your elbows. 

Tinubu declares interset to run for a political post in 2019.


The former governor of Logas state Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu has declared his interest to run for either the post of a president or senator in 2019 if such vancaies exist. He made this known at Akure during the weekend at the inauguration of the new governor of Ondo state; Olu Akeredolu.
