Yemi Osibanjo's 38 days in power ; work review and the way forward.
Today marks 38 days since the former vice president of Nigeria assumed post as the acting president. Taking a look at the major 8 things he has done for the betterment of Nigeria.
1. Road contracts:
On February 8, Osibanjo chaired the FEC and gave approval of 21 billion for the construction of Illorin - Omu Aran - Kebba road.
He also approved the award of 126billion on 15th February for the construction of federal roads across Kano, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kwara, Gombe, Enugu and Kaduna states.
2. Reduction in prices of food.
He organised a presidential task force on food security to resuce the prices of dood items in the country.
On January 17, he also held a meeting with the executive director of WFP, ms. Ertharin Cousin.
3. Screening of Chief Justice Walter Onnoghe:
Yemi Osibanjo on 7th February, sent the name of the acting chief justice of Nigeria, Cheif Justice Walter Onnoghe to the senate for screening.
The senates however, are yet to screen or confirm him.
4. Visitation of Niger Delta:
Within this short period of post, Osibanjo has visited Yenagoa the capital of Bayelsa on two occasions. February 10th and 13th respectively. This is in continuation of his meetings with oil producing communities in the state.
He also went to Port Harcourt. Rivers State to meet the stakeholders of oil producing communities. In the visitation, he reviewed the plan for the clean up exercise of ogoni land.
5. Siging of 7 bills into law.
On February 17th, Osibanjo signed and amended some bills into law; amendment of Oaths act 2017
Signed Defence space administration act 2017 into law.
Amendment of Veterinary surgeons act 2017. e.t.c
6. CBN and forex trading:
Osibanjo on February 16th chaired the first meeting of the National Economic Council of the year. There he gave a directive to the CBN to review the foreign exchange policy. At the end of the meeting, it was finalised that $250 be moved into SWF. The CBN was also directed to release $500 million through interbank markets, whare the 23 banks bought $371 million.
7. Unscheduled visit to Mortala Muhammed airport:
Yemi paid an unexpected visit to Lagos state airport to inspect the facilities and also interact with airport officials for the smooth running of the airport.
8. Infrastructure :
on February 22, Osibanjo chaired the meeting hwld by FEC where he approved 32 billion naira for the completion and renovation of Kaduna eastern bypass highway. In the meeting, he also approved $ 39.9 for the construction of the Cameroon - Nigeria border link bridge at Ikot Efiem.
The council also approved the Revised National Policy on Environment.
With all these achievements in just 38 daya in office, all we can say is that Osibanjo is working. Continue sir and more grease to your elbows.
